M+M Crusin Paris

M+M Crusin Paris

On Sunday a.m., we did a “Fat Tire” tour of Paris.  This was a lot of fun as we got to ride all over Paris taking pictures and generally having a good time “cruising.”  We saw (and rode under) the Eiffel Tower, Napoleon’s Tomb, the Champs Elysees (where the TdF finishes), and the Arc de Triomphe.  It was really neat to see (and be a part of) bikes taking over Paris.

After our tour we then watched LE TOUR as the raced loops around the Champs Elysees.  Our room overlooked the race course just past the 1K To Go banner, so we were able to enjoy the race from our balcony.  In fact, if you watched the final stage of the TdF and knew what you were looking for, you could just make out us on the TV coverage (we did this upon returning home and watched the race on DVR).  It was impressive to see the high speeds of the peloton as they chased down a breakaway and Mark Cavendish demonstrated his sprinting prowess by taking another stage victory (his 5th this year).

After the race concluded, we had dinner with our group on the Eiffel Tower (yes “on”…not nearby…at one of the restaurants located on the Eiffel Tower).  The views were amazing, the food “so so” (although, our palates may have been corrupted a bit from all of the tasty foods we had enjoyed over the last week-plus).  After dinner, a small group of us walked back to our hotel and took a few photos of the Eiffel Tower “sparkling” (starting at 11pm, every hour the entire tower flashes & sparkles for a few minutes).

Upon arriving back at our hotel, we stopped for a few minutes out front to admire a pink Lamborghini and Rolls Royce that were parked out front.  After taking a few pictures and realizing they were not our cars (they Arabic license plates gave that away), we headed inside – only to run into the Team Astana post-Tour party breaking up (it was being held at our hotel).  After a near miss, Molly was able to get a picture with that day’s TdF champion, Alberto Contador!!  After three (3) weeks of racing (and 1000s of photos), he was very kind to do one more with Molly.  Of course, the excitement of running into him made falling asleep a bit difficult.  😉
